Putting this together has been the best part of my job lately. I’m so damn excited. The full details:

The Triple Canopy Party

The well-designed online literary journal Triple Canopy hosted a fundraising party for 177 Livingston last night in association with Light Industry and The Public School (“an open framework,” whatever that means). The event was packed to the rafters, with readings by Ed Park and Lynne Tillman. What followed was my favorite part of the evening, a screening of “Light Music” by Lis Rhodes.

Rhodes’s double projection is a seminal exploration of 16-mm optical sound—the on-screen abstraction is “read” by the projector as audio—and a classic of British expanded cinema.

Although the party and crowd veered precipitously into 1970s loft-party-nostalgia at times, overall it was a fine evening and I look forward to more innovative programming like this. And if the crowd is any indication, there’s a hunger for it out there beyond the insular publishing world.
